These “stretch marks” are a type of atrophic scarring of the skin, with destruction of the normal architecture of the structure in the dermis (the deeper layer of the skin below the epidermis).

Heredity plays a crucial role for the emergence of “stretching”, because that determines the elasticity of the skin. Increasing the tension applied to the skin, as in pregnancy, rapid growth of the body in adolescence and large increases in body weight are an important test for the skin. If it does not have good elasticity then skin torns internally and “opens”. This gives a feeling of emptiness in the palpation along the “stretching”, and a skin surface above that is thin and atrophic and has a different color hue. In the beginning the color of the surface is red-pink crack because it contains blood, finally a white atrophic scar is installed.

Preventing the emergence of “stretching” is practically impossible because there is no way to change the genetically determined skin elasticity. Emollient creams applied for skin moisturizing provide in general little help to a genetically predisposed person.

The golden standard is that the earlier you start dealing with stretch marks (as they are still in the red-pink phase) the better and more immediate the results will be (usually 4-5 sessions are required at this stage). In the white phase of the old “stretch marks” more sessions are required, but the results are still very satisfactory. Also, we should explain that it is practically impossible to return the skin to the quality that it had in the past before the appearance of the “stretch marks”, but we can improve it significantly, both in appearance and texture.

All methods of treating stretch marks aim to create new connective tissue (collagen) with better structure that resembles that of the normal skin. Our goal is to stimulate the blood supply of the skin in “Stretch marks” area and to activate the fibroblasts in the same area by mild skin injury. Activated fibroblasts produce collagen and elastin fibers and create a new network of connective tissue. They also produce hyaluronic acid which provides hydration and shine to the skin. For this skins stimulating injury we prefer Fractional RF (radiofrequency) technology or the use of surgical fractional CO2 laser.

“Stretch marks” treatment with autologous mesotherapy – Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is plasma from the patient himself enriched with the growth factors which are present in patients own platelets. Growth factors are proteins with regenerative and restorative properties. When the growth factors are injected under the skin they stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin fibers, which restore skin elasticity and improve the appearance and texture of stretch marks. Fibroblasts also produce hyaluronic acid which provides hydration and shine to the skin.

Combined treatment protocol for the treatment of «Stretch marks» (striae)

This is a combination of surgical fractional CO2 laser and autologous mesotherapy-PRP. The results of each method separately proliferate when they are combined in the same session. Also, the post-treatment recovery time is significantly reduced because of the use of PRP containing growth factors that accelerate healing! The return to daily activities is a direct with minimum patients post-treatment daily care. In the combined protocol too, the results are more immediate and even more impressive when we start treating the early “red” phase of stretching.
