What is o acupuncture ;
Acupuncture is a medical procedure with established documentation in the treatment of functional diseases with the aim of internal balance. It is done by using needles in special places on the skin. It has been practiced for more than 3 millennia in China and since 1657 in Europe. The application of acupuncture is not an obstacle to medication or interventional treatment. On the contrary, it strengthens the action of classical medicine, it works as a supplement when medication fails to bring about the desired effect, avoiding the side effects of drug abuse.
How does o acupuncture ;
Acupuncture as a therapeutic technique is based on the painless placement of needles in specific points on the skin which are connected to "meridian" energy channels. Every disease is considered an energy disturbance between yin "parasympathetic" and yang "sympathetic". Their balance alone brings health. Acupuncture recognizes the body as an open system of continuous energy exchange and aims to restore energy through stimulation of anatomical acupuncture points. The skin and its sensibility reveal the close relationship of the skin with the nervous tissue. So, the skin where the acupuncture is done transfers the stimuli to special organs, tissues, brain. Through electrical stimulation of acupoints, pain is relieved, tissues are better perfused, and endorphin-serotonin neurotransmitters, known as well-being hormones, are released.
How is it that acupuncture ;
As it can be seen, the term acupuncture in the English language comes from 2 words. The Latin word acus which is a paraphrase of the Greek word akis and from the word puncere which means to pierce. Its application is painless and safe, without side effects and unwanted effects. The needles are fine, sterile, single-use and are placed in the ear and body. The time the needles stay in the acupuncture points is about 30 minutes, feeling comfortable and relaxed. Sometimes a single therapeutic session is enough, and sometimes if we have a chronic medical condition, more 1-3 times a week will be needed. This is judged in consideration of the result by the therapist together with the sufferer.
The purpose of acupuncture is to prevent a disease, to reduce symptoms of an already existing disease, to stop pain, to deal with addictions e.g. binge eating, smoking. Generally to stimulate and rejuvenate the body.
