HAIR TRANSPLANTATION EASY, SIMPLE, AFFORDABLE
“]On our scalp, there are about 100-150 thousand hair follicles.
Normal is considered a hair loss during which 50-100 hairs are lost daily. Loss of this size should not worry us because the hair has a specific life cycle.
This cycle consists of three phases: anagen, catagen and telogen, during which the hair is replaced and grows again.
What is androgenetic alopecia and how is it diagnosed? Does it occur in women too?
Hair loss in which they fall out more than 100 hairs per day and the subsequent ones succeeding them are of worse quality (thinner, more colorless and more weak) resulting in the gradual transition of the hair to fluff.
This results in some hairs being permanently lost. Pathological hair loss is called androgenetic alopecia. It is the most common cause of scalp hair loss, especially for men.
It starts appearing usually in the temporal area, then at the top of the scalp and finally these two areas are joined. It is due to heredity but also in the effect of androgens on the hereditary "sensitive" hair follicles.
There is also androgenetic alopecia which affects women . It has a completely different pattern of development, but the exact same rationale.
What are the classic treatments available to treat it?
• Dietary supplements with vitamins-traces-minerals-amino acids: These provide the "building blocks" of keratin to strengthen hair (and nails). Thus, the hair acquires "volume" and becomes stronger and healthier. A head that now has better quality hair, looks fuller
• Minoxidil spray or foam: this medicine locally inhibits an enzyme in the root of the hair (5-α-reductase). This enzyme is responsible for the conversion of testosterone into a more aggressive form, which damages the hair.
• Finasteride pills: They do the same as minoxidil lotion, but they are even more effective because they are an internal and therefore more systemic treatment.
Are there new and improved methods?
• Autologous mesotherapy (platelet rich plasma PRP) with which we place the patient's own growth factors at the level of the skin where the hair follicles (hair roots) are located
• The Alopecia DNA test which can be done at any age (even a child!) to show the genetic predisposition (ie heredity) for that person to develop androgenetic alopecia.
Future goals that are still at the research level:
• The production of new hair follicles (and consequently hairs) from primordial pluripotent stem cells (blast cells) which we obtain and isolate from the patient's fat. This development will provide us with more hair transplant possibilities, without limiting the number of hair follicles we receive from another area of the body.
What is and how is HAIR TRANSPLANTATION (hair transplant) done?
The implantation (transplantation) of hair (or as it has prevailed to be called: hair transplantation) is essential the only definitive way of recovery androgenetic and other forms of alopecia (eg alopecia areata) in men and women and falls under the surgical treatment of hair loss.
Implantation (transplantation) is resorted to when conservative treatments are not sufficient, alopecia is already evident and creates intense psychological and other problems for the sufferer.
It is recommended implantation (transplantation) to be done alongside conservative treatment which we do not interrupt! In order to be able to maintain the good result of the implantation, the treatment which prevents further hair loss (e.g. with drugs that inhibit 5-α-reductase and fight the progression of androgenetic alopecia). It is therefore recommended to continue using 5% minoxidil lotion or foam after hair transplantation, as and PRP sessions (Platelet Rich Plasma) for maximizing results.
Nowadays, the process of hair implantation (transplantation) has evolved and simplified to such an extent, that the patient can return to his activities almost immediately without obvious signs that testify that he underwent a hair implantation (transplantation) session.
What is the most appropriate age to have an implant? (transplant) hair?
There is no "best" age to have the first implant session (transplantation) hair. The clinical expression of androgenetic alopecia varies greatly from person to person, with the result that there are young men, even under the age of 20, with very extensive hair loss. Conversely, there may be patients older than 60 years with very little thinning.
The age of the first session is therefore determined by the clinical picture of each patient and mainly by the psychological impact that the hair loss has on the particular patient. It is preferable to start the first implantation session (transplantation) hair at an early age, when the problem is evident and to repeat, if necessary, a few years later.
Are there contraindications and in which cases?
Special categories of patients, such as patients with cardiac or respiratory problems, diabetics, patients with coagulation disorders, patients with thyroid diseases or other diseases they can safely undergo a hair transplant, subject to the prior consultation of the hair transplant surgeon with the attending physician and the corresponding regulation of the medication they receive.
What to expect from a hair transplant?
Hair transplantation can give an optimal aesthetic result, mainly with:
Even and fuller coverage along with minimal injury to the donor area and avoiding scar formation.
Natural result, excellent aesthetics with correct hair distribution. This means correct direction (direction) of the hairs, correct planning of the implant sites in the recipient area and re-creation of a natural hairline. This is achieved by using fine, single hair follicles on the forehead line in a wavy or zig zag pattern.
Achievement of maximum possible density in the recipient area, depending on the possibilities provided by the donor area.
What is the most advanced hair transplant method?
The most advanced FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method essentially pioneers the method of extracting and transporting hair follicles.
In the old FUT-STRIP method, a strip of skin was taken from the donor area which was then separated into individual hair follicles.
Instead. in the FUE method, individual hair follicles are initially taken from the donor (occipital) area, which are transplanted then also individually in the receptive sparse area (frontal and/or parietal area).
What is the FUE surgery technique?
Stage 1
After preparing the patient, local anesthesia is administered.
Stage 2
The doctor carefully selects and takes the hair follicles one by one from scattered parts of the donor area.
Stage 3
The doctor, after careful planning, creates the sockets of the hair follicles in the recipient area, in which the hair follicles will be transplanted. The holes are small so as not to disturb the microcirculation and blood supply of the recipient area, thus ensuring the necessary conditions for nourishment, growth and growth of new hairs.
Stage 4
The stage of placement (implantation) of the hair follicles is from a technical point of view the most demanding of the procedure. The hair follicles are implanted in the sockets of the recipient area together with the connective tissue surrounding them: those containing a hair are placed along the frontal line (hairline) – forming recesses and protrusions just like natural growth. Hair follicles with 2, 3 or 4 hairs cover the area of thinning as we move towards the interior of the scalp.
What are the major advantages of the hair transplant technique? FUE;
• Linear scars are not created in the donor area
• The healing time in the donor area is minimized
• There is no restriction on vigorous physical activity after surgery
• Can also be applied to young people who have very tight skin on the scalp (reduced elasticity)
• Allows hair follicles with finer hairs to be harvested from the nape of the neck to restore hair growth on the frontal forehead line or eyebrows
• Provides the possibility of extracting hair follicles from other parts of the body (beard, chest, back) although taking from the occipital region of the scalp is always preferable.
Eyebrow restoration is also done with the method transplant FUE?
Eyebrow restoration with hair follicle implantation concerns people who suffer from a congenital lack of eyebrows, or want to cover scars from accidents or burns or even present excessive thinning of eyebrows from hair removal or due to age. Also simple for aesthetic reasons one may desire a fuller and more youthful brow and this is best achieved with the transplant method FUE
Who mainly choose the transplant method FUE;
• Those who want to shave their head or have short hair up to 1cm.
• Those who want up to 1200 cuttings
• Those who do not have sufficient elasticity in the skin of the scalp so that a strip can be taken
• Patients who have poor skin healing and create ugly scars
• Patients who already have a scar in the donor area from a previous strip graft application
• Those who consider FUE as the most modern technique
• Those who want to expand the potential of their donor area (FUE & STRIP combination)
• Those who are afraid of very invasive hair transplant procedures
• Patients looking for the most painless transplant procedure
Are there any complications in the FUE transplant technique? Which are;
Complications of hair transplantation are more common in FUT – STRIP transplantation, due to the more invasive nature of the technique.
In FUE they are minimal and include:
• Local folliculitis in the recipient site (<0.3%) which is easily treated with application of antiseptic shampoo and antibiotic lotion for one week
• Facial swelling mainly of the forehead that resolves in 1 to 2 days (<1%), and is easily treated with small doses of cortisone
• “Shock loss” after implantation, which is not a complication but is completely expected. It is prevented by the continued use of minoxidil, which we generally recommend to continue using for reasons of stabilization and inhibition in the progression of androgenetic alopecia
How long is the operation? FUE;
The hair transplant operation with the FUE technique takes several hours due to the special process of individual extraction and placement hair follicle by hair follicle with the special tool.
Is there an immediate return to normal activities?
After hair transplantation you are able to return to your activities in a short time. There are cases – always depending on the type of profession – where the return to work takes place even the day after the operation. The doctor informs individually and gives specific instructions and directions according to the profession and activities of each interested party.
The hair transplant doctor will check the donor and recipient area and after giving you the necessary post-operative instructions verbally and in writing, you return home or work.
When does NEW HAIR start growing?
New hair grows normally immediately after being transplanted! In 3-5 months the first results are already visible, which are completed after 10 months. It is important to emphasize that usually a significant percentage (20%-80%) of the transplanted hair gradually falls out after the operation, but this phenomenon is considered completely normal since new hair grows in its place. Transplanted hair grows like other hair and stays forever. They are washed, cut, combed, they are amenable to any kind of hairdressing process and they are no different from the rest of the hair!
What is and how is the transplant technique done? FUT–STRIP;
With the FUT-STRIP hair transplant technique, a mass extraction of hair follicles is performed which are taken from a strip of skin (from the donor area). Next, the hairy section of skin that is stretched is specially processed under the microscope, separated into grafts and then inserted into the thinning area.
The Strip hair transplant method essentially replicates the natural way hair grows: Because hair grows in sets of 1 to 4 hairs called follicles, the hair transplant process is done by taking and transplanting hair follicles, giving a completely natural result
The resulting grafts, depending on the technical training and experience of the team performing the FUT session, can be minigrafts (grafts with 4-8 hairs) or micrografts (grafts with 1-3 hairs).
With a special technique of suturing the donor area (Trichophytic Closure) all that remains is an almost "invisible" scar (Invisible Scar) noticeable only by close examination of the scalp.
The Strip Technique (FUT) is the most common method of hair transplantation, in cases where the goal is to achieve significant coverage and density even with one session. It is also the most efficient and economical way to restore thinning, as it requires fewer sessions and therefore costs.[/et_single][et_single icon=”no-icon” tab_title=”
