The unpleasant smell of the skin and how to avoid it

Bad breath is a problem that often embarrasses people who care about their personal hygiene, bathe daily, use deodorant and perfume, yet the unpleasant smell that exudes from their skin persists. The problem may intensify during a date or a business meeting because of it stress, a fact which has a significant impact on the patient's quality of life.

Possible causes of the problem

1.Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Sweat itself is odorless and serves the natural function of regulating body temperature. When skin-dwelling bacteria break down sweat into its constituent parts, they create byproducts, which are the source of bad breath. The first effort we can make is to insist on extra cleanliness and hygiene. Shower as often as possible. Right after working out at the gym, before we leave the house in the morning. Good wiping after bathing is also very important. When the moisture remains after a quick wipe it gets trapped in the skin and especially in folds like the armpits and under the breasts. Where there is no air it is easier for bacteria to grow which produce malodorous compounds.

-When training in the gym, we should prefer sports clothes that do not trap sweat. Cotton and special high-tech fabrics designed for this purpose are ideal

-Also, to try various deodorants that prevent the growth of bacteria (the excessive use of which can lead to folliculitis or even the appearance of dermatitis in the armpit area) and antiperspirants (which, however, have a very short-term effect).

– In cases of excessive sweating in the armpit area or on the palms and soles, there is also the modern and highly effective application of botulinum toxin, which offers a very good result that lasts 5-6 months

-For hyperhidrosis of the soles it helps to we dry our toes well after the shower and spray the soles with antiperspirant sprays. At the same time, avoid wearing thick socks in the summer and change clean socks as often as possible! after the shower, make an aromatic foot bath, either by mixing one liter of water with 4-5 black tea bags, or by heating one and a half liters of water with three tablespoons of baking soda or coarse salt. Leave your feet in the basin for half an hour and at the end simply dry them well with a towel.

2. The high consumption of alcohol, tea and coffee

As the alcohol circulates in the blood, tiny droplets are released through the sweat glands. The type of alcohol we consume does not play a role in how strongly the sweat will smell. It's good replace caffeinated beverages (coffee, tea) and alcoholic beverages with natural juices

3. Eating strongly smelling foods and spices

Strong-smelling foods, such as onion, broccoli and garlic, curry and spices, break down and produce substances that also smell strongly. These substances circulate in the body through the blood and are released through breath, sweat and urine. We should try to avoid these foods

Also the high consumption of red meat as well as processed foods as well as foods with high fats can lead to bad breath. It is good to limit these foods and adapt eating a diet rich in vegetables, which are rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements, fiber and antioxidants and favor the body's cleansing of toxins. Furthermore, eating parsley, celery and mint as well as cinnamon can help neutralize strong odors. In some cases, drinking squeezed lemon with water helps, especially in the morning

4. Skipping meals and dieting

cause a decrease in saliva production (chewing increases saliva production). Decreased saliva leads to bad breath.

It is good to try to eat at regular intervals. Also chewing sugar-free gum often helps as it increases saliva production.

5. Low water consumption

It also leads to a decrease in saliva production. The goal is to increase water consumption so that the mouth does not remain dry for long periods of time. Hydration will provide other important benefits to our skin.

6. Dietary imbalance in magnesium and zinc

If there is, taking nutritional supplements can help

7. Bad breath "bad breath"

In addition to the diet we have already mentioned, there may be other pathological causes such as gingivitis, nicotine.  Also the incomplete oral hygiene. When we don't brush our teeth often, food debris gets stuck between the teeth and gums, causing them to decay and produce foul-smelling byproducts. In this case it is good to brush our teeth after eating even very small meals. In some cases it is good to brush the tongue as well as use mouthwash to avoid the growth of bacteria.

8. Heredity (genes)

10-15% percentage of people have a hereditary predisposition to strong bad breath and especially to that of the feet.

9. Stress

Which significantly increases sweating.

10. Gastrointestinal disorders leading to insufficient or incomplete digestion as well as gastroesophageal reflux.

Additionally liver diseases such as liver failure which produces bad breath which smells like rotten fish.

11. Diabetes mellitus

When the body does not have enough insulin then it starts to break down fat to produce energy which releases substances which can be foul smelling. These have a particular effect on the breath which smells like acetone. It is good for patients suffering from diabetes mellitus in conjunction with their specialist to have their blood sugar very well regulated

12. Bad smell in the sensitive area

The most common cause of vaginal odor is vaginitis which is caused by fungi or bacteria. More often in the summer when high temperatures, tight clothes and underwear, our visit to swimming pools and beaches are risk factors. You should see your gynecologist to diagnose the problem especially when symptoms such as itching, stinging or pain when urinating are accompanied by discharge from the vagina. At the same time it is good to use special soaps which do not affect the pH of the vagina and exclusively cotton underwear.

13. Excessive hair growth especially in armpits and genital area.

The hairs increase the temperature locally, resulting in increased sweating and easier growth of bacteria. Sweat adheres to the wild hair in the area and has difficulty evaporating quickly, causing bacterial activity to be greater and last longer. Correspondingly with the hair, there is a larger "fertile soil", i.e. a larger surface, so the effect of this bacterial action multiplies. Epilation is recommended ideally with use laser.

14. Oily scalp

A particularly oily head has an increased bacterial load as well as increased itching. It is necessary to wash the scalp more often with special shampoos against oiliness and dandruff.
